The company has now embarked on launching a DX consulting business as a new pillar \u2014 and tapped three young members to lead it. The driving force behind their willingness to take on the enormous challenge of building something from scratch was the company&#8217;s culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company has pivoted toward engaging with clients&#8217; challenges in the form of consulting. We spoke with the team about their way of working \u2014 one that holds &#8220;altruism,&#8221; the company&#8217;s core cultural value, at its heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-border -border04\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><strong>Aoshi Iwamoto<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IT Solutions Division Group Manager &amp; Consulting Division Head, Levtech Co., Ltd.<br>Joined Leverages Co., Ltd. as a new graduate in 2021. During his student years, he worked as a web director and marketer at an internet advertising company, improving the revenue of a human resources media property by 223% year-on-year and growing it into a media with annual sales exceeding \u00a5100 million. He then joined Leverages as a new graduate and became part of &#8220;Levtech,&#8221; the company&#8217;s IT business. Appointed team leader in his first year, and in his second year managed a team of 10 while concurrently handling business planning for Levtech \u2014 taking on multiple new business research and strategy formulation roles. From his third year, he began launching new businesses in the DX domain. He currently serves as Group Manager of the IT Solutions Division, leading an organization of approximately 130 people, while also serving as Head of the DX Consulting Division and M&amp;A\/PMI Head for companies that have joined the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ryoma Katsuki<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BizDev Sales Team Leader, Consulting Division, Levtech Co., Ltd.<br>After graduating from university and working in consulting sales at a real estate company, he joined Leverages Co., Ltd. as a mid-career hire in 2023, handling corporate sales at Levtech Co., Ltd. He subsequently joined the launch of a new DX business just six months after joining \u2014 exceptional for a mid-career hire. His responsibilities span far beyond sales to include in-team analysis, group sales expansion initiatives, and new business partnership projects with local governments and banks. He currently delivers top-tier results as a corporate salesperson while handling new employee training, initiative planning, and initiative management for business expansion. In conjunction with the launch of the consulting division, he is also working on sales strategy formulation, systematizing the sales process, and new client development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hinako Tatsukawa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recruitment Team Leader, Culture &amp; Organization Strategy Division, Levtech Co., Ltd.<br>Joined Leverages Co., Ltd. as a new graduate in 2018. In her first year she gained experience in corporate and individual sales at the Levtech Osaka office, and from her second year she was involved in launching a new Yokohama office. From her third year she served as a sales team leader at head office, handling management duties including member development and performance management. Wanting to broaden her capabilities and advance her career in her twenties, she requested an internal transfer and from June 2023 \u2014 her fifth year \u2014 built a dedicated HR organization for Levtech from scratch, as a solo effort. Our target for fiscal year 2024 is to hire approximately ten people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current team, including the main founding members, numbers around six to seven. From the Levtech side there are the three of us \u2014 myself, Katsuki, and Tatsukawa \u2014 and approximately three members of senior management from ATLIKE Inc., which joined through an M&amp;A transaction, are also participating as we make preparations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-2\">\u2014 Could you tell us about the background to launching the consulting business?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Iwamoto: There are two main reasons. The first is to address the social challenge that Japan&#8217;s corporate DX is lagging behind other countries. Our parent organization, the Leverages Group, builds its businesses around social challenges, and Levtech&#8217;s role within that is to tackle social challenges from the digital and technology domain. By being part of Leverages and leveraging the group&#8217;s strengths, we aim to support the advancement of DX at Japanese companies. Rather than focusing solely on our own profit, we want to create a business that asks whether the environment truly enables clients to achieve DX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second reason is that in recent years, the importance of doing more than matching for companies with IT challenges \u2014 of going deep inside the organization and accompanying them through their challenges \u2014 has been growing. There have been many cases in the past where recruitment placement services alone were not enough to solve clients&#8217; problems. For example, we have often felt that a client&#8217;s true success cannot be achieved without also changing their organizational culture. There are also many other angles from which a company&#8217;s challenges need to be approached before DX can truly be accomplished. If the challenges run deep \u2014 in ways that are separate from people and resource issues \u2014 adding more headcount alone will never address the root cause. We concluded that Japan, and Levtech, needs a service that provides accompanying support to companies facing exactly these kinds of challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-3\">\u2014 Are there ways in which you are differentiating from other consulting firms?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Iwamoto: Having grown as a business company to the scale of \u00a5110 billion, we understand the feelings of a business company as a participant \u2014 and I believe our strongest differentiator is the company culture of genuinely standing on the client&#8217;s side and accompanying them, which no other firm can replicate. In addition, we have built strategies for how we should enter the market and what positioning we should take, with a flat view of that market, and we want to combine those small differences to set ourselves apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our company culture stems from &#8220;altruism&#8221; \u2014 a value we hold central. Consulting requires not just acting as clients&#8217; hands and feet to push things forward, but the ability to think through clients&#8217; challenges alongside them and accompany them through the journey. What that requires is an altruistic mindset \u2014 one that asks &#8220;is this truly serving the client?&#8221; and &#8220;are we thinking from the client&#8217;s perspective?&#8221; We place enormous value on this quality and have assembled a team of people who embody it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A further strength of ours is the database of approximately 500,000 IT professionals we have built through our existing businesses. Being able to leverage this database in consulting is a competitive advantage that others cannot easily match. We have expanded from our original focus on engineers to now having a wide range of professionals \u2014 including AI talent and people capable of taking on PM roles. We of course also look at qualities like the communication skills needed to build smooth relationships with clients, but at our company we first check whether someone embodies &#8220;altruism&#8221; and &#8220;trust, intellect, and passion.&#8221; In terms of thinking through challenges together with clients to the end \u2014 that requires intellect and passion \u2014 and building a relationship of trust with clients requires just that: trust. People who possess &#8220;trust, intellect, and passion&#8221; are the ones who are a good fit for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-6\">\u2014 Mr. Iwamoto and Mr. Katsuki, what kind of people do you personally want to work with?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Katsuki: I want to work with people who have genuine consideration for their teammates. Someone who acts altruistically rather than self-interestedly, and shows real care for the people around them, would be a great match for what we value here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iwamoto: People who can create their own opportunities. At Levtech, even junior employees can take on work with significant autonomy. For that reason, we are looking for people with the ability to execute \u2014 who can think for themselves and engage with projects proactively. That kind of attitude directly connects to the goal of enhancing clients&#8217; corporate value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-7\">\u2014 What do you expect from someone who joins as a consultant?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Iwamoto: We expect them to map out concrete solutions to clients&#8217; challenges and play a genuine role in raising corporate value. Our company is more open and freewheeling than most, and we deeply respect people&#8217;s ability to think for themselves. That means people can take on challenges without being constrained by organizational entanglements. Within that, I hope people will make full use of their own abilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our company has a deeply ingrained culture of giving young people significant autonomy from early on, with managers who actively champion the challenges of the younger generation. As a result, the conditions for taking on challenges while maintaining psychological safety are in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are very intentional about building an environment where team members focus their attention on clients and advance projects through their own thinking. We believe that directing everyone&#8217;s energy toward clients enables more effective problem-solving. The Leverages Group, including Levtech, is characterized by an all-in-house structure where everything is handled internally. Building a career as a consultant is one option, but the opportunities for growth go beyond that \u2014 including taking on different roles, launching your own new businesses, or getting involved in M&amp;A \u2014 making the chances for growth more plentiful than at other companies. The Leverages Group employs an investment strategy unique to a privately held company, with annual business investment now exceeding \u00a510 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-10\">\u2014 So it&#8217;s possible to take on all kinds of roles across the Leverages Group.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tatsukawa: From the outside, Leverages may look like a single large business company, but it is actually a collection of small services and business formats. Being able to experience businesses of different sizes and at different stages is one of the unique advantages of working here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case of the consulting business we are launching now, we are in the phase of creating something from zero to one. Joining now would offer the rare opportunity to be involved from the very beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Katsuki: The Consulting Division is currently in the phase of deciding the targets and strategies to pursue. Not only can we develop clients in areas that differ from most consulting firms, but we can also provide solutions from a perspective that is uniquely ours \u2014 and that is a real strength. Being able to pursue these challenges within the large capital base that is Leverages is also a compelling attraction unique to our situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-11\">\u2014 Are there company-wide efforts in place to protect the company culture?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Iwamoto: We spare no expense in investing in people, in order to protect a culture that prizes altruism. Consulting companies are often described as collections of &#8220;individual shops&#8221; \u2014 because they are made up of professionals who each operate independently. But that is not the kind of environment we want to create in our Consulting Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are building a structure in which we can grow alongside talented external consultants \u2014 freelancers who work with us and senior leaders from ATLIKE Inc. By being able to leverage external resources even in development and training, we are reinforcing the cultivation of our company culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tatsukawa: A culture of feedback is also deeply embedded here. Beyond regular one-on-one meetings, managers give team members frequent feedback in the course of daily work, and are committed to building relationships in which psychological safety is high. In other words, we believe that the quality of the relationship between a team member and their manager shapes the atmosphere of the entire organization. Appropriate communication is what ultimately preserves company culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iwamoto: Beyond Levtech, Leverages also creates opportunities for exchange across the whole company twice a year through company-wide general meetings. Even within the same organization, different roles naturally create different perspectives and can make it easier for barriers to form. We therefore work continuously to share knowledge through opportunities for cross-functional connection. We believe this effort to create a borderless environment is one of the things that nurtures our company culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-12\">\u2014 Are there things you are particularly mindful of within the Consulting Division to keep the atmosphere positive?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Katsuki: Once a month, Iwamoto shares the previous month&#8217;s results and his vision with the team. Every quarter, we also hold a roughly three-hour session as a team to give members feedback and gather their input on where they want to take the Consulting Division \u2014 then develop improvement measures from that. Ideas that come from team members are turned into initiatives, so that each person&#8217;s opinions and thinking are reflected in how the business operates. The environment where anyone can share their views freely, regardless of tenure or experience, is what I believe creates the good atmosphere here. I worked in corporate sales related to freelance engineer matching, while also being concurrently assigned to the business planning office \u2014 wearing two hats and handling both roles. After that, I was entrusted with launching the Consulting Division, which brings me to where I am today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Giving younger employees positions of real responsibility is part of Leverages&#8217; culture. Even people in their second or third year are actively encouraged to think for themselves and translate those ideas into business \u2014 it&#8217;s that kind of company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-15\">\u2014 What was the deciding factor in choosing this company as a new graduate?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Iwamoto: I concluded that this was a company where all the skills and experience I would need in the future could be developed in-house, and where young people are trusted with major decision-making responsibilities from early on. I had always had ambitions to build my own business someday, and during job hunting I interviewed more than 100 entrepreneurs and read extensively \u2014 arriving at the conclusion that the best environment for learning to build businesses was one where I could learn sales, marketing, and product, all in one place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Knowing that some people become business unit heads in their early twenties, and that the all-in-house structure means you can experience every function, I decided to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-16\">\u2014 Ms. Tatsukawa, could you tell us about your career background?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tatsukawa: I also joined Leverages as a new graduate, and was initially assigned to a division within Levtech handling the engineer job-change agency business, where I worked in both corporate and individual sales. After four years of work across the Osaka and Tokyo offices, I wanted to further broaden my skill set, so I took on the challenge of building Levtech&#8217;s recruitment function from scratch. I am currently involved primarily in recruitment work while also contributing to the launch of the Consulting Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-17\">\u2014 You&#8217;ve taken on a wide range of challenges, from building the recruitment function to contributing to the Consulting Division launch.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tatsukawa: The single biggest reason I chose this company is the environment in which you can take on challenges with real autonomy. For women, career interruptions due to life events such as marriage or pregnancy are not uncommon, so I wanted to be in an environment where I could move at speed. With that in mind, I used the axis of &#8220;a company that raises the market value of people in their twenties&#8221; as my criterion during job hunting. That&#8217;s what drew me to Levtech \u2014 a company that gives young people autonomy and, through its all-in-house structure, offers exposure to a wide variety of roles. The chance to accumulate hands-on experience across a wide range of challenges is a major source of fulfilment for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-18\">\u2014 Mr. Katsuki, unlike Mr. Iwamoto and Ms. Tatsukawa, you joined mid-career. What prompted you to move to Levtech?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Katsuki: I joined a real estate investment company as a new graduate and, through working with clients across a wide range of industries, I came to realize that I was operating within a fairly legacy environment. While I had developed strong sales skills, I began to feel that to raise my own market value further, I needed to hone my skills at a cutting-edge company that was breaking through established conventions and legacy environments \u2014 and I started preparing for a move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-19\">\u2014 Was there a particular deciding factor in choosing this company?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Katsuki: I didn&#8217;t necessarily have a crystal-clear picture of what I wanted to do \u2014 more that I wanted to work in an environment with people I wanted to work alongside. When I interviewed at Levtech and saw peers of my own age working with genuine energy and enthusiasm, I felt strongly that I wanted to be part of that environment \u2014 and that was the biggest deciding factor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-20\">\u2014 Finally, could each of you share your vision for the future?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Iwamoto: I want to do work that raises clients&#8217; satisfaction and corporate value. It&#8217;s something I think about all the time: Leverages has been able to grow so significantly not through the strength of us employees alone, but because of the countless clients we have worked alongside. Going forward I want us to continue growing by sharing know-how with each other and raising each other&#8217;s value together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Consulting Division, the goal going forward is to become the most recognized company among IT and DX consulting firms. We are currently in a state of moving back and forth between market realities and strategy, refining and adjusting our approach as we go \u2014 but we are gradually finding the path to winning. I see giving concrete form to the strategy we&#8217;ve mapped out as my role, and I intend to keep challenging forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Katsuki: My life vision is to expand my sphere of influence. In this environment where the all-in-house structure gives me access to a wide range of roles, I want to accumulate as much experience as possible \u2014 and use the current business as a springboard to help grow the whole company. That&#8217;s what I&#8217;ll keep working toward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tatsukawa: In my case, I don&#8217;t have a specific end goal clearly mapped out for the future. I believe the right approach for now is to always be pushing myself to do whatever I can to help Levtech and Leverages grow further.
