F.N.<\/strong> I joined Fujitsu as a new graduate and worked as an SE, handling requirements definition, design, and implementation for system rollouts at clients in the chemical industry. I then became interested in being involved in challenge resolution in a way that went deeper into the industry, and in my fourth year made the move to a small consulting firm specializing in the power and energy sector, where I transitioned into a consulting role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I subsequently moved to Accenture, wanting to leverage my knowledge of the same energy industry while gaining experience with clients of a broader range of company sizes. At Accenture I continued to focus primarily on energy-sector clients, handling multiple projects including business transformation and system implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I hadn’t strongly envisioned an SE path for myself originally \u2014 at my first employer, I was actually hired into a sales role. But before my assignment was finalized, someone in HR mentioned that “having SE experience broadens your future career options,” and that was what led me to start my career as an SE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I was surprised at first to be proposed a different position than the one I was hired for, but since I had originally wanted to take on challenges across a wide range of industries and functions, looking back I’m glad I got the SE experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Initially I was proposing various in-house products as an SE, but I gradually started wanting to address the essential challenges clients faced and find solutions to them. Of course there are challenges that can be resolved through system implementation, but I found myself increasingly asking whether that actually led to resolving the fundamental challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Working as a consultant at Accenture, I was genuinely surprised by the ability to grasp situations from the client’s perspective, and I experienced first-hand what makes consulting fascinating. I worked at Accenture from 2018 for about four years, then joined DNTI in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My experience supporting change management at my previous employer had made me want to take on transformations that involved an even broader range of client stakeholders. DNTI offers a workshop-style DX promotion service, and I was strongly attracted to the fact that it can involve the client in the transformation process \u2014 not just surface-level system implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Supporting clients’ DX promotion was also one of the domains I wanted to be involved in going forward. For those reasons, I decided to join DNTI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our business centers on two pillars: a DX Concept and Planning Services business built around the theme of “thinking together” with clients, and a DX Design and Delivery Services business built around the theme of “creating together” with clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the DX Concept and Planning Services, we handle DX concept development through a variety of approaches including workshop-style and consulting-style methods. Many companies grapple with questions like how to set the purpose and goals of their DX initiative. By using workshops and similar methods to help verbalize those purposes and goals, we enable DX promotion with higher clarity and resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The DX Design and Delivery Services tend to be used when a company has a direction for its DX goal but cannot yet clearly articulate business requirements or system requirements. We handle support including system development incorporating the latest technologies and system improvement and optimization by SAP consultants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our workshop-style DX concept development service is something I think of as a distinctive strength unique to us. Our workshops don’t start by cataloguing client operations and systems \u2014 they start from the angle of what “happiness and unhappiness” means to the clients themselves. We ask: given the current state of operations, what makes things “unhappy”? And from that, what would need to be true for people to be able to work “happily”? Starting a workshop from these seemingly simple questions is what allows us to uncover the essential challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When thinking about operational efficiency, there was an instance where the reason operations were getting held up turned out to be that “communication between departments was poor and people had different understandings.” That was an answer we would never have arrived at by looking at surface-level solutions like system implementation. Coming up with solutions to essential problems uncovered through workshops is an extremely challenging task \u2014 but it is also one of the most rewarding aspects of running them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It varies depending on the client’s situation, but from my own experience, year-long projects do exist. One workshop ran over a full three consecutive days as the project kickoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As for how a project typically progresses in practice: we begin with a workshop to map out current operations and extract challenges, setting a rough overall goal. Based on the views that emerge, the project members discuss response measures, and where deeper exploration is needed, we conduct additional interviews with workshop participants to determine the concrete goals and scope of support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once the scope of support is defined and we move into the phase of examining the approach to system construction, we review how to implement the measures from a systems perspective and may also compile requirements and requests for SIers. In this way, DNTI handles the upstream portions including concept development and planning, starting from the workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Three people are assigned to each project: a project owner, a project manager, and a consultant. Our primary counterparts are typically people in departments related to information systems, though final executive approval may be required. For that reason, we also work together with the client’s team to prepare proposal materials for obtaining that approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Most of our consultants join as mid-career hires, and many come in with a clear sense of what they want to do \u2014 things like “I want to work on supporting new AI initiatives” or “I want to be involved in DX promotion support.” The impression I have is that it’s an environment where, if there’s a project you want to take on and you put your hand up, you’re likely to be given the opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because we have so many mid-career hires, there is also no rigid seniority hierarchy, and being able to talk on equal terms with people across a wide range of roles is one of the company’s attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Most of our mid-career hires do have consulting backgrounds, but it’s not a strict requirement. On the flip side, even someone with consulting experience who is at a stage where they want to settle into more stable, less intense work would find it difficult to thrive here. Someone who has a clear, high-resolution understanding of consulting, who knows exactly what they want to do, and who brings genuine passion to it \u2014 that’s who is suited to being a consultant at DNTI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are two main ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first is people who can work with a strong emphasis on teamwork. As I mentioned, the default is for multiple members to work on a single project, so advancing things purely on the strength of your own knowledge and skills alone is not how it works. I believe people who can bring a spirit of collaboration \u2014 integrating each member’s expertise to put forward the best possible proposal \u2014 will thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The second is people with the flexibility and mindset to take on a wide range of things. Someone who says “I only want to work in this one domain” is not a good fit for us. People who can flexibly take on diverse challenges are the ones who tend to thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Client requests and challenges change frequently as a result of workshops. That means the ability to take in the views of others and adapt to change is essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I personally want to work alongside people who can sensitively perceive those client changes and adapt to them with flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I currently work in the IT consulting department, but going forward I want to deepen my expertise in other areas including development and SAP, and build the capability to resolve client challenges across a broader spectrum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the same time, I also want to work toward DNTI itself becoming an even stronger organization that can support clients in a one-stop fashion. It would be wonderful to build the kind of organization that can resolve any challenge from the upstream through DNTI’s own capabilities alone. I also want to develop my own ability to see the whole picture \u2014 to become the kind of presence that acts as a lubricant for the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What impressed me most in the interview with F.N. was the thoroughly human-centered approach of beginning DX with a workshop that asks people about their “happiness and unhappiness.” There was something deeply resonant about a consulting style that takes three full days of dialogue to carefully unravel essential challenges \u2014 such as walls between departments \u2014 that surface-level system implementation would never uncover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What I want to convey to prospective applicants is the appeal of a flat organization where mid-career joiners put their hands up for what they want to work on and can discuss it with people regardless of title. A culture that values teamwork and integrates each member’s expertise to arrive at the best possible proposal is an ideal environment for growing as a professional without isolation.
