[Interview with Shun Kenmotsu, Representative Director & CEO of enableX Inc.] A Business Development Firm Creating Corporate Value Through Business Development in the AI Era

We interviewed Shun Kenmochi, Representative Director & CEO of enableX Inc. — a company that defines itself as a “business development firm” — about what business development looks like in the AI era and the world the company is aiming to build.

Fusing AI Technology with Business Development Expertise to Rewrite the Rules of Business Creation

— Could you tell us about enableX’s business and what makes it distinctive?

We aspire to be the organization that people instinctively associate with “business development firm” — that’s the level of recognition we are aiming for. We have now executed more than 100 projects globally, and in just our second year of operation we surpassed ¥2 billion in transaction volume. We see this as the gradual fruition of our work to redefine what business development looks like in the AI era and drive real transformation.

Our business is built on two main pillars. The first is our business development service, through which we realize business development and growth alongside our clients. Drawing on management talent, execution capability, and cutting-edge AI technology, we drive projects on a global, one-stop basis. We commit end-to-end from strategy formulation through to execution, achieving business growth at the speed and precision that was previously impossible through thorough use of AI.

The second is our own in-house business development. We carry out M&A and investment in companies where our AI technology and business development models can add value, pursuing value-up through labor-saving initiatives such as data analysis automation and development automation, as well as opening new sales channels. By June 2025, we had completed M&A transactions with four companies.

— What sets you apart from conventional consulting firms?

There are three key differences.

First, we operate multiple businesses in-house as well as doing client work. We accumulate the know-how of implementing the latest technologies through our own businesses, and provide support that is grounded in the real experience of running those operations. Rather than just giving advice, our value lies in drawing on knowledge gained from actually running businesses — and committing to our clients’ business growth all the way to the end.

Second, we have assembled a group of people with rich business experience. We bring together entrepreneurs who have taken companies from founding through to listing or sale, alongside globally minded professionals with deep expertise in cutting-edge technology. With the diverse perspectives and track records of a multinational team, we commit end-to-end from strategy through to execution.

Third is next-generation business development powered by AI. As the focus shifts — with the emergence of generative AI — toward transforming operating models and fundamentally rethinking the nature of work itself, support that goes beyond conventional consulting to step into actual business execution has become increasingly required. Through thorough use of AI, we pursue business growth for our clients and ourselves at the speed and precision that was previously unattainable.

Redefining What Business Development Looks Like in the AI Era

— Could you share your vision for the future?

“Changing the way business development is done” — that is our mission. As product life cycles shorten, the ability to develop businesses is absolutely essential to maintaining and growing stable economic growth and employment.

We want to deliver the AI × business development knowledge we have built up to more clients and fundamentally transform business development. Drawing on a global perspective, cutting-edge technology, and practical business development know-how, we will contribute to economic growth and job creation.

Real Project Examples and the Use of Technology

— Could you give us some concrete examples of how you use technology?

We actively apply AI technology to solving challenges. In data analysis automation, for example, we use AI agents to automate the analysis of large volumes of data, making time-consuming tasks like market research and competitive analysis more efficient. This accelerates the speed of decision-making.

In marketing enhancement, we support the planning and execution of marketing initiatives using generative AI, automating personalization and content generation to enable effective marketing activities.

In development and testing automation, we feed documented development requirements and ubiquitous language into AI agents, and through training by test engineers, achieve the automation of development testing.

The Innovation That Emerges from Diversity and a Flat Culture

— Could you tell us about the organizational structure and what you are currently focused on?

The organization is growing rapidly. We have expanded into an organization composed of diverse roles — not only business development consultants, but also AI engineers, marketers, and more.

Our team today brings together people with rich business experience. Entrepreneurs, global consultants, AI engineers, and business development professionals with diverse backgrounds have come together, and we place great importance on an environment and culture where everyone — regardless of nationality or background — can engage in flat, open discussion.

One of our current priorities is deepening expertise in AI and data management. With the emergence of generative AI demanding fundamental changes to operating models and the very nature of work, we are working to be able to provide comprehensive support — from formulating data utilization strategies that drive business growth, through database design and construction, to data analysis and application. We are also actively hiring in this area.

— Are there particular things you prioritize in terms of mindset?

Because we are challenging ourselves in the domain of AI-era business development — an area where no one yet knows the right answers — it is important to have the attitude of not fearing failure, always trying new things, and learning from each other. As product life cycles shorten, people who can approach unfamiliar fields and industries with genuine curiosity and excitement are the right fit.

The ability to engage directly with executives and senior leadership — and to propose ideas without hesitation — is also necessary. Because the support we provide goes beyond conventional consulting into actual business execution, a strong will to move the client’s business forward and a tough, resilient mindset are required.

— Could you tell us about the kind of talent you are looking for and your approach to development?

What we are aiming to develop is “entrepreneurial talent” — professionals who can identify business opportunities, formulate strategy, harness technology, and see things through to the end, continuously creating business value. We are committed to developing people who can own the entire journey from business creation through to growth — not simply people who generate ideas or specialists who handle specific tasks.

On the skills side, there are two things we prioritize.

The first is the ability to see things through to the end in pursuit of a client’s business growth.

The second is experience in AI and data. We are looking for people who can map the right data utilization strategy for driving business growth, and provide comprehensive data management and data marketing support — from database design and construction through to the analysis and application of acquired data.

In terms of character and attitude, the first thing we look for is genuine human warmth. The world — and clients — don’t move simply because you present a logically correct argument. We believe that business is something that only begins to move after complex communication has taken place. To move “the client’s business forward” — rather than acting “as a consultant” — what matters most is understanding what people are feeling.

We also place great importance on curiosity. Because our support spans all industries, even seasoned professionals frequently encounter unfamiliar fields and sectors. When faced with something unknown, rather than feeling anxious because of a lack of experience, people who can feel excited precisely because they have no experience are the ones who are a great fit for us.

— Could you share a message with our readers?
