Even if something represents a genuine reason for applying, there are “things to avoid” that are better left out of your motivation statement. Specifically, try to refrain from mentioning the following three points as much as possible.

Working Conditions Such as Salary and Location

Mentioning working conditions such as salary and location should be avoided as much as possible. Not all consulting firms offer high salaries, and when viewed over a long time horizon, relocation may well be a possibility.

If salary or location is included in your motivation, it becomes harder to convey “why it has to be consulting,” and it may also create a negative impression — so avoid it where you can.

Above all, salary and location are merely ancillary perks of a job offer and are not the deciding factor in your motivation.
